Moonrise Over Sherwin Meadow
Geoff Buckner is a self-taught artist initially exploring the use of acrylic paints on canvas. Geoff’s love of the outdoors started as a child when he spent his youth in coastal San Diego during the school year and extended camping trips with his family in the Eastern Sierras every summer. He has always felt the call of the wild whether it is surfing at his beloved Sunset Cliffs or hiking and climbing in the Sierra high country. Today he has the good fortune to live part time in both San Diego and Mammoth. Painting has allowed him to slow down to capture the natural beauty of the places he loves. This painting is a January moon rise in the Sherwin Meadow, here in Mammoth.
Every artist in the Mono Arts Council Gallery & Art Center is invited to show their art because they are either a resident of the Eastern Sierra or have strong ties to the community. We support both emerging and experienced artists in our space and 50% of all proceeds go directly to the artist while the other 50% goes to support arts education right here in Mono County.
Acrylic on canvas, 8x8, Framed.
Piece submitted in MAC's seasonal show, Howling at the Moon.
Note from the Artist: Like many places in the area, the Sherwin Meadow is a source of inspiration due to its many moods. From calm spring mornings with colorful flowers, grasses, manzanita, and sage to windy winter white-out evenings, the Sherwin Meadow always sparks the imagination. This painting captures a calm evening moonrise following a classic Sierra winter storm.
