Neowise & The Moon

Neowise & The Moon

Frank Damon

  • Artist Bio

Frank Damon developed an interest in photography when he was a teenager. He then became a lawyer and for many years did not pick up a camera. But, the dawning of the digital era intrigued him and wrapped its technical arms around him, and dragged him in. He has always been amazed by what the camera could do but his left brain was tugging with more intensity than the right brain, which presented him with a creative challenge. When he photographs the atmosphere, the landscape and cityscape, he sees the beauty, serenity, chaos and humor that not only intrigues and fascinates, but implores him to continue. The camera is merely a tool which allows him to explore and frame the world as he sees it. The vision of what he sees and experiences is the resulting photograph. And with the assistance of modern technology, there are no limits to what can be pursued and achieved. He loves photographing landscapes and all things Eastern Sierra, which is endlessly interesting, full of beauty, mystery, light and dark.

Every artist in the Mono Arts Council Gallery & Art Center is invited to show their art because they are either a resident of the Eastern Sierra or have strong ties to the community. We support both emerging and experienced artists in our space and 50% of all proceeds go directly to the artist while the other 50% goes to support arts education right here in Mono County.

  • Product Description

    Photograph on Metal, 18x12.

Piece submitted in MAC's seasonal show, Howling at the Moon.

Note from Artist: I captured both the waxing crescent moon and C/2020 F3, Comet NEOWISE on the night of July 20, 2020. The moon was slipping behind the hills of Topanga Canyon in Los Angeles at around 9:00 pm that night and Comet NEOWISE was not yet visible. But about a half-hour later, Comet NEOWISE surfaced. So I merged these two images together as a great memory of that night.
