Your Support Makes Art Possible
Mono Arts Council ensures every school in Mono County has arts education curriculum and opportunities for all students. For over 50 years, we have created spaces and platforms for artists, and we have created places for adults to engage and create arts.
As the world around us continues to change, art and artistic expression becomes even more critical to our mental and physical well-being.
Now more than ever, we need your help to ensure everyone has access to the arts in Mono County.
Fundraising Goals for 2021 - 2022
$250,000
Through this campaign, our goal is to raise enough funds to cover all the MAC programs that benefit our community.
A Platform for Artists
MAC provides platforms and exposure for established and emerging artists. Our gallery represents over 50 local and regional artists. We connect our artists with patrons through the gallery, classes, and festivals.
K-12 Arts Education
Arts for Our Community
For over 50 years, MAC has provided opportunities to explore, enjoy and engage in the arts. We host arts and music festivals for the residents and visitors of Mono County. We present both arts festivals and adult arts education opportunities for more than 12,000 adults throughout the year.
With MAC, every school-aged child in Mono County has access to arts education curriculum and opportunities for all students. Without MAC, there is almost no K-12 arts education.
MAC Makes Art Happen in Mono County
Without MAC, most students will have no arts education. MAC provides approximately 90% of arts education programming in our schools.
K-12 arts education is critical to the development of the whole student. We believe all students deserve the opportunity to take part in the arts, both in school and in the community.
Mono County is a rural community, where art education is not part of a regular school program until high school, and even that is limited. Local children have limited exposure to art and technology, and have little or no opportunity to learn and practice relevant skills. Moreover, many local families cannot afford basic art materials.
MAC provides art classes, festivals, and more to over 12,000 people every year.
From the American's for the Arts, " The arts are fundamental to our humanity. The arts bring us joy, help us express our values, and build bridges between cultures. The arts are also a fundamental component of a healthy community—strengthening them socially, educationally, and economically—benefits that persist even in difficult social and economic times."
A joint study by the Brookings Institute, Rice University, and Houston Education Research Consortium was released in 2019. It was an effort to fully measure and quantify the impact of arts education in K-12 schools. “We find that a substantial increase in arts educational experiences has remarkable impacts on students’ academic, social, and emotional outcomes.” The study found that students participating in arts education, “experienced a 3.6 percentage point reduction in disciplinary infractions,” compared to students not participating in arts education. Students with arts education had writing score improvements, “of 13 percent of a standard deviation in standardized writing scores, and an increase of 8 percent of a standard deviation in their compassion for others.”
