MAC August Student Spotlight: Margaret

School is back in session in Mono County and we are PSYCHED! MAC's Crescendo music and Create with the Greats visual art programs will get started in schools in September! To get ready, we've been traveling to visit the school sites to get everything set up and scheduled. This month, we spoke to Margaret, a 1st grader at BES!

Why do you love art?

I like that you can be creative. Sometimes I make rainbows; sometimes Halloween stuff - anything!

Do you have a favorite piece of art you have created?

Sometimes in our class we get to color for 'soft starts.' It’s the first thing we do when we come into the classroom.  There’s like magnets and stuff to play with too, and building things, which is 3-D art.

What would you say to a friend to get them interested in art?

I would tell them that I like to make rainbows because they are colorful and it's fun!

Do you think art is important? Why?

Sometimes. Like, who doesn’t want to see a rainbow?

My favorite colors are red and orange.

What do you love to create the most? (Her answer might not surprise you....)

Rainbows!! And, I loved making the stars. I did it in circles (like with Van Gogh’s Starry Night, which was our final Create with the Greats Artist last spring).

Is there anything else we should know or that you'd like to tell us?

I do have a cat and sometimes I like to draw cats - they’re cute. I also draw sunbeams with red and orange - sometimes I like to mix them to see what color it makes. It makes a sunset like the ones I see sometimes.I like to sing on the swings at recess - like the song Golden from K-Pop Demon Hunters.
