For our first Student Spotlight of 2026, we thought we'd talk to one of our High School interns - Jocelyn! Jocelyn has been working with us here at MAC for the past several months - both volunteering and working as a class assistant in our gallery programs. You may have seen her helping out at Community Events as well, like Kidapalooza, or hanging flyers around town! We feel very luck to get to have this amazing, driven, kind young person working with us and our students!
Why do you love art - and working with MAC?

Because when I was in elementary school, I grew up with the 'Meet the Masters' program (now Create with the Greats) and it reminds me of my childhood - and taking care of the kids here is a full circle moment for me!
Do you have a favorite piece of art you have created?
Yes - can I show it to you? I make Social Media posts for the MHS class of 2026, and this
one (below) is my favorite.

The story: I made one for football, and I didn’t initially include the cheerleaders in it, so I made that one specially for them! So here - my art is to make people feel important and included.
I also took a beautiful picture of my sister that I’m very proud of (below).

What would you say to a friend to get them interested in art?
Art matters because it can be expressed in different ways. With me, I do my nails, I sing, and I do photography to express myself.
Do you think art is important? Why?
I think it’s import because the world is really corrupt right now, and dark, and art makes people happy - and that’s what the world needs most - to be happy and to be able to find beauty.
What do you love to create the most?
I’m really getting into photography right now - I like how I can control all of the lighting and make it look really beautiful and show how pretty the world is.
Anything else we should know?
I’ve been working at MAC since the summer, and I didn’t know that I was gonna love it so much - and I’m just really happy that I can put my empathy and my need to care for other people (our MAC art students) to good use. Next year, I will be at a university working on my BS in nursing.
