For December's Student Spotlight, we caught up with Lucas, a 4th grader at Lee Vining Elementary. Lucas is no stranger to the art world at the ripe old age of 9! In fact, he has his work for sale in some local shops in Lee Vining (The Bronze Bear Outpost) and soon, will be featured at the Gallery & Community Arts Center with our next Featured Artist, Grub!
Why do you love art?
I love art because it’s very passionate and I love all the colors.
Do you have a favorite piece of art you have created?
Probably something that’s inspired me is Bob Ross. He’s inspired me to do all this creative stuff. So, I love how he does all his strokes. I learned how to make trees - like pine trees. I paint in the summer and sell my paintings at the Bronze Bear Outpost (in Lee Vining). I’ve sold a few paintings so far.
What would you say to a friend to get them interested in art?
They should probably learn and see art from Bob Ross.
Do you think art is important? Why?
Yes, I do. Because it’s very colorful and people like it.
What art form, or what do you love to create the most?
The best one for me would probably be like singing. Tonight I’ll be singing and playing the recorder in the school show (We Wish You A Merry Christmas with MAC's Crescendo Music Program)
Anything else you think we should know?
I know [MAC Gallery Artist] Grub because he goes to Nicely’s and he is friends with my parents. I told him I was an artist when I was about 6. Then he asked me if I wanted to be in the show at MAC with him. I should have 2 or 3 pieces in the show!
