MAC February Student Spotlight: Collin

For this SNOWY February Spotlight, we asked our friend Collin, age 11, to tell us about why he loves art. Collin has been a MAC student for several years, and we love to see what new things he creates in our classes! For the past few years, MAC has worked with the Lee Vining Elementary School to create art for their space, and last year we created a patchwork of Mono Lake together with parents and students. Collin created a whole packet of Brine Shrimp to help complete the project - and we're so grateful, since no Mono Lake art would be complete without those essential creatures!
Why do you love art?
It is fun and creative and I can express myself through color.

What is a favorite piece of art you have created?
A stinky cheese print using aluminum foil and paint as a medium. It has a pink background, a blue plate and a big ol’ piece of stinky cheese (pictured above).
Do you think art is important? Why?
Yes, art is important, of course! Otherwise the world would be a boring place and I would have nothing to decorate the house with.
What do you love to create the most?
Chickens inspire me. I love including chickens in drawings, paintings, hats, sculptures, LEGO, doodles, using their feathers when they fall out…and I love them as pets!
Anything else we should know? Is there any kind of art you wish you could try?
I need an art medium that I can create realistic shrimp, specifically the beauty of mantis shrimp. I love all shrimp though.
