MAC August Student Spotlight: Kim

Here at MAC not all of our students are kids! We offer so many amazing classes to people of all ages, and so this month - while kids are getting back into the swing of things as school starts up again, we thought we'd ask one of our regular Art + Wine students (and amazing volunteers!) to talk to us about her experience with the arts. We caught up with Kim at our recent class, Be Bold with Color, taught by Jenny Kane at McGee Creek Lodge!

Why do you love Art?

It’s relaxing; it gives me a chance to be creative. I like to explore all the different mediums that I can, and just have fun with it!

Do you have a favorite class you’ve taken at MAC?

Probably Stained Glass because it was so new and I’d never done it - and I wouldn’t be able to do it at home.

Do you have a favorite piece of art you’ve created?

I have some frogs that I’ve painted. I’m partially French Canadian, and a derogatory term for French Canadian is "frog," and so I kind of embraced that and took it back.

Do you think art is important? Why?

Oh it’s so important - especially for kids, because it gives them a means to explore and be creative. I used to teach after-school and I’d get so many ideas from kids because they don’t have any limits - and for me it was healing. I started back up when I was going through chemotherapy - and it was helpful in getting me out of dark thoughts and hopelessness.
