The end of the school year is such a busy time for students and their families - and it's no exception for us here at MAC! In those first few days of June, our education team gets to visit so many schools to share the art and music the students have been working on and learning all year with parents, friends, families and each other. It's one of our favorite times of the year, because we get to see all of the incredible talent, hard work, and progress that everyone has made.

This month, we talked to 8th grader, Mia, in Bridgeport - who is an artist in multiple ways! Mia had a piece in our Student Art Show, "Where Flowers meet the Peaks" this spring (and it sold before the show even opened!); has been traveling around playing her ukulele and singing at various events, including VES Bingo for MAC in May; Kidapalooza at the CRC in June, and finally at the final BES showcase this spring. Mia paints, sings, plays beautifully - so we thought she would be a great student to speak to at the end of the school year!
Why do you love art?
I think it just brings life and color to the world.
What is a favorite piece of art you have created?
I love to play guitar because I like singing and playing together. Velvet Ring by Big Thief is my favorite song to play - it has a cool finger picking pattern. I’ve been playing for a year. My favorite genre is reggae rock like Sublime.
What would you say to a friend to get them interested in art?
I would say it’s ok if you don’t like music, but experiment with different genres to see if you can find anything you do like. There has to be something you’d like - even if it’s just instrumental.
Do you think art is important? Why?
Yes I do! Because it shows creativity in everyone and it’s beautiful.
What do you love to create the most?
I love to paint scenes in nature. I paint a lot - I just took a picture of the mountains and I had a vision in my mind of the river, and then my mom told me I should put flowers in it so I did.
Anything else we should know? Is there any kind of art you wish you could try?
I’m excited to go to CHS for volleyball and guitar lessons. I like performing - it makes me scared, but I do it scared, and then I feel relieved. I like taking opportunities that I’m handed, and I think I will go into music and be a performer when I get older. I have one full sibling and 2 half-siblings.

Many puzzle enthusiasts enjoy comparing solving strategies. Canuckle provides a framework where different approaches can lead to success.
I found Drive Mad while looking for a quick game during a break, and it ended up keeping me entertained much longer than expected.
